FinnAir

FinnAir is one of the oldest and largest transportation companies in Europe. It operates flights to more than 60 countries around the world, including the Far East and Tropical Africa. The distinctive feature of the carrier is first-class service in economy class and a new aircraft fleet. FinnAir has two key hubs: at Vantaa Airport in Helsinki and Turku, in western Finland.

FinnAir History

FinnAir was founded in 1923. From the first years of its independence Finland began to develop air service to remote regions and neighboring countries. Initially the company used German airplanes, but after 1946 it radically renewed its fleet. FinnAir received its modern name and international registration in 1947.

A powerful impetus for development was the Helsinki Olympics in 1952. It was the first Olympics in history to involve an airline.

Given Finland’s special status as a bridge between East and West, FinnAir has been involved in passenger transportation to both European and Eastern Bloc countries. As a result, the regional carrier has one of the best fleets in Europe and a wide geography of flights.

FinnAir fleet

The airline tries to regularly renew its fleet. At the moment, all 79 of the company’s passenger aircraft are no more than 10 years old. With the exception of the turboprop ATR-72, all aircraft are equipped with an extended business class. By rationally utilizing the interior space in the aircraft, it was possible to increase the distance between seats to 41 inches.

Popular FinnAir flight destinations

At the moment FinnAir does not operate flights to the Russian Federation. However, the company continues to serve Russian customers who have managed to reach Finnish airports. Given that Finland provides simple visa requirements for Russian citizens, FinnAir has become a window to Europe for Russians.

The company flies to more than 60 countries around the world. The company’s most popular destinations are London, Rome, Tokyo and Berlin, as well as New York. The carrier also operates several flights a day to the Baltic States and Transcaucasus.

Classes of service

Upon reaching the age of majority, a FinnAirJunior program participant receives a status depending on his/her previous activity.
